I’ve made the confession on my photographer’s bio page that I love sharing a table with friends. I love the comoradorie that sitting down to a tasty dinner, or fabulous glass of wine, provides to a friendship. There is just something about the soft glow of dinner lights, experiencing a delicious meal or glass of wine together, and the conversations that always surround such a setting. I love it. Like my favorite. I also love creating such an environment. And, I happen to be blessed with friends that enjoy creating this environment as well.
This particular time, I was in charge of dessert. Also known as, the best part of dinner. :) I decided to venture out and try something new, and slightly intimidating. I’ve heard stories of how hard custard can be. So I thought I’d give it my best try (making sure I had enough time to swing by one of my favorite bakeries on the way if it didn’t work out.) But, to my surprise, it actually wasn’t as difficult as I thought! Now, I certainly have not mastered custards yet, but this recipe from my pinterest board was a fabulous one to start with. I’ll have to give it a couple more tries to reach perfection, but I loved the coconut creaminess with these fresh fruits. The original recipe called for a balsamic sauce that I will try someday (I ran out of time for this get-together) and roasted strawberries, but I switched it up and kept it a little fresher with fresh peaches & strawberries covered with just a hint of honey.
And off we went to have dinner with some fabulous friends. And, it just so happens that this particular dinner was with one of the best cooks I know and her family. FOREVER I had wanted to learn how to make risotto, so she showed me her tips and tricks. But the best part was that we got to spend the evening sipping wine, stirring risotto and chatting it up. Maybe I should add cooking dinner together to my list of reasons I love sharing a meal.
We even got a little help from Rose. (You’ll remember Rose from her appearance during their family photos)
Delicious, fabulous meal with friends who hold a great spot in my heart. Love you guys.
