After one year of pure marital bliss (ok, and some stress and a little adjusting) we wanted to celebrate with some serious quality time together. After a bit of deliberating, we settled on our travel destination: Italy!!! I love traveling, and G-man loves him some Italian food… so Italy was the perfect fit. And seriously, it was such a blessing to go. I had been saving up frequent flyer miles (forever) and had enough to get two award tickets to Italy. Hurray! And, an added blessing: the award ticket just happened to have an 8 hour lay-over in Paris! Aw yeah! Nutella crepes here we come.
We stepped off the plane (which takes some work for those 6’4” folks like g-man to unfold after the SLC –Paris flight) and embarked on our first adventure of the trip: how to buy a train ticket that would also get us back to the airport. When everything was in French (with pictures) I was pretty proud of our accomplishment when we sat down on the train. Moments after sitting, a couple with an accordion and violin began serenading our train. Ahhh, this was going to be one romantic trip.
Our first stop was at Notre Dome. Absolutely incredible. The details of this church… I could likely stare at it for hours and hours (and then go inside!).
Then, off to the Eiffel Tower. It was fun to be in such an iconic place. Even though I had been once before… it was foggy the last visit, so to have the beautiful blue skies framing the tall tower was wonderful. But I think, even more than that, it was fun to share the experience with my wonderful hubby. He really is the best.
And now… I will be doing a post for each of the cities we visited… so be prepared to view Italy: it’s romance, it’s architecture and its beauty.
